About Us

Introduction

We are here to provide a Christ-centered, Spirit-empowered and Bible-based community that is geared to meet your spiritual needs.

Our mission statement is based on:

1. The Great Commandments

Matthew22: 37-39
“Love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ This is the first and most important command. And the second command is like the first: ‘Love your neighbor as you love yourself.’”

2. The Great Commission

Matthew 28:18-20
“Then Jesus came to them and said, “All power in heaven and on earth is given to me. So go and make followers of all people in the world. Baptize them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach them to obey everything that I have taught you, and I will be with you always, even until the end of this age.”

Our church strives to conduct its life in accordance with the pattern and spirit of the Bible. Our strategy will be based on the 5 primary functions of a church found in Acts 2:

1. Worship (Acts 2:47)

2. Connect (Acts 2:46)

3. Grow (Acts 2:42)

4. Serve (Acts 2:45)

5. Evangelize (Acts 2:41)

History

Church of Praise...

...is a Christian community of believers which is distinguished by its emphasis on being a God-loving, Christ-centered and Spirit-filled local church. As of January 2016, it has planted one daughter church in Taman Setia Indah  (Faith Community Assembly), a Vietnamese Ministry in Skudai and another church in Cambodia (Taming AOG). Church of Praise is also instrumental in the setting up of Praise Lighthouse AOG, Taman Perling.

The church grew out of a few families meeting in Taman Perling and was formally accepted as a member of the National Evangelical Christian Fellowship of Malaysia in 1990. Much of the theology of Church of Praise corresponds to Pentecostal teachings such as the doctrine of the Trinity, the Bible as divinely inspired and the infallible authoritative rule of faith and conduct, the emphasis that all Christians are entitled to and should seek the baptism in the Holy Spirit, the conviction that the baptism in the Holy Spirit empowers the believer for Christian life and service, the present day use of spiritual gifts and the belief in divine healing. The church places a strong emphasis on the fulfillment of the Great Commission and is known for its emphasis on missions, raising godly families, vibrant worship, and community service.

The church is governed by a team comprising the Senior Pastor and Church Board, with the financial matters and ministries administered by a full-time staff, administrative team members, ministry coordinators and small group leaders. It currently has a combined membership of about 600 people and it has a missionary presence in the migrant workers community in Johor Bahru, particularly to the Vietnamese and the Filipinos.

The church is also instrumental in setting up Rainbow House in 2012, a joint project with U-Turn Centre. Rainbow House caters to the needs of single mothers to help take care of their children.

In 2015, the church, in line with its vision to make a positive impact on peoples’ lives, set up Persatuan Prihatin Komuniti Johor Bahru to offer community services such as counselling, training and financial assistance.

Doctrinal Statement

The doctrinal position of Church of Praise is expressed in the following statement of faith.

We Believe...

… the Bible is the inspired and only infallible and authoritative written Word of God2 Timothy 3:16
…there is only one true God, revealed in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (commonly known as the Trinity)  Deuteronomy 6:4; Matthew 28:19

… in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, in His personal, future return to this earth in power and glory to rule a thousand yearsJohn 1:1

… in the Blessed Hope—when Jesus raptures His Church prior to His return to earth (the second coming). At this future moment in time all believers who have died will rise from their graves and will meet the Lord in the air, and Christians who are alive will be caught up with them, to be with the Lord foreverTitus 2:13; 1 Thessalonians 4:17

… every person can have restored fellowship with God through salvation (trusting Christ, through faith and repentance, to be our personal Savior)John 14:6

… regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential for personal salvationTitus 3:5

… in water baptism by immersion and Holy CommunionMatthew 28:19
… divine healing of the sick is a privilege for Christians today and is provided for in Christ’s atonement (His sacrificial death on the cross for our sins)1 Peter 2:24
… the baptism in the Holy Spirit is a special experience following salvation that empowers believers for witnessing and effective service, just as it did in New Testament timesActs 2:4
… sanctification initially occurs at salvation and is not only a declaration that a believer is holy, but also a progressive lifelong process of separating from evil as believers continually draw closer to God and become more ChristlikeGalatians 5:16–25
… in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost, the one to everlasting life and the other to everlasting damnationRevelation 20:11–15
… in the church, which is the body of Christ, and its mission to be the agency of God to evangelize the world, worship God, build the body of Christ, and demonstrate God’s love and compassionMark 16:15–16;
1 Corinthians 12:13; 1 Corinthians 14:2–3; Psalm 112:9
