1. The Disciples’ Opportunity (vv. 1-5)

-The disciples were at the right place at the right time.
-God placed opportunity in their path.
Peter and John were ready to serve.

Reflection:
Be Ready For Every Opportunity To Serve That God Places In Your Path.

Do not wait for extraordinary circumstances to do good; try to use ordinary situations.
- Johann Paul Friedrich Richter

Galatians 6:10 (NIV)
Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.

2 Timothy 4:2a (AMP)
Herald and preach the Word! Keep your sense of urgency [stand by, be at hand and ready], whether the opportunity seems to be favorable or unfavorable. [Whether it is convenient or inconvenient, whether it is welcome or unwelcome…]

The Disciples’ Power (vv. 6-10)

    - Power resides in the name of Jesus.
    - Power brings results.
    - Power attracts attention.

    Reflection:
Ensure That All Your Service Is Done In The Power Of The Spirit.

"Many Christians estimate difficulties in the light of their own resources, and thus attempt little and often fail in the little they attempt. All God’s giants have been weak men who did great things for God because they reckoned on His power and presence with them."
    - J. Hudson Taylor

    1 Corinthians 2:4-5 (NIV)
My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit's power, so that your faith might not rest on men's wisdom, but on God's power.

    3. The Disciples’ Ministry (vv. 11-16)

      - Serving begins with self denial.
      - Serving centers on Jesus.
      - Serving proclaims faith in Jesus’ name.

    Reflection:
    Never Draw Attention To Yourself.

Imagine I’m your tour guide leading you through an art museum, and as you come upon masterpiece after masterpiece, I stand not off to the side or behind but in front of the picture. And in response to the `oohs’ and `ahs’ of the crowd, I say "Thank you. Thank you. Thank you." That would be extremely ridiculous, right?

    John 3:30 (NIV)
He must become greater; I must become less.

    The Disciples’ Message (vv. 17-23)

      - Many OT prophetic texts find their fulfillment in Jesus.
      - It is not too late for the crowd to be reconciled to God.
      - Repentant faith is required for salvation.

    Reflection:
Begin And End Your Message In The Person Of Jesus Christ.

Preach nothing down but the devil, nothing up but the Christ.
    - Charles Haddon Spurgeon

    1 Corinthians 2:2 (NIV)
For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified.
