The ministry of Church of Praise began in 1988. After graduating from the Bible College of Malaysia,Pas. Kelvin Sim saw the need to plant a church in Taman Perling. He subsequently shifted from Malacca to Johor Bahru with his wife, Irene, to start the ministry. The first worship service was held on 9th January 1988 at Jalan Belibis 7, Taman Perling, attended by two couples and a trainee teacher.

Though the community’s initial response to the ministry was hardly encouraging, the church persevered with the support of some local and Singaporean churches. The work continued to expand and in Sept 1991, the church shifted to a bigger premises at 155 Jalan Simbang (comprising two units of terrace shoplots). Subsequently, the church saw the need to purchase its own building. Funds were raised and in April 2001, Church of Praise bought and shifted to its present building at Bukit Indah.

Pas. Michael Yeo took over the leadership of Church of Praise in 2005. Together with his associates, Pas. Patrick Tan and Pas. Neo Thoi Cheng, and an able team of committed staff and lay-leaders, they continue to equip the local body of believers and to reach out to the community with the gospel of Jesus Christ.

As of 2008, the church has grown to a combined membership of more than 500 regular worshippers. It has a daughter church, Faith Community Assembly (pastor-in-charge: Pas. Daniel Lau), in Taman Setia Indah as well as ministries to migrant workers(vietnamese & Mainland Chinese).
